WHO John Patterson WHAT Sniffle Co brooches WHERE sniffleco.com HOW MUCH $26-$42 AT THE moment all my designs are made from laser-cut plywood, then varnished and hand painted. Last year I wanted to make presents for my friends and family, so I designed Christmas-tree decorations and got them laser cut. I was really surprised with the detail you could include on the wood, so I started experimenting with different ideas, which led me to designing brooches and buttons over the holidays. I wanted to give the designs their own unique identities, and make them whimsical, funny and a little bit masculine.I think of them as the best kind of prize you could get in a 1960s cereal box. I studied illustration and have done a bit of design work here and there. I€™ve never really been crafty, though I love turning a sketch or an idea into something physical with a purpose. I think people either think they€™re funny and cute or just totally don€™t understand € like, €śwhy is the cigarette so happy?€ť The Woody brooch is my best seller. I definitely underestimated how many Woody Allen fans there are in the world.
